Superintendent's Welcome Back Letter

Superintendent's Welcome Back Letter
Welcome Back to SchoolDear SHRSD Families,

On Wednesday, September 1, we will be welcoming back our students to the South Hunterdon Regional School District for the 2021-2022 school year. We are excited to be returning back to a full day schedule for our students. As much as we all wanted to move forward from the last year of dealing with COVID-19, we are still challenged by the virus and its impact it is having on our country. As I am sure you have heard, the Governor announced on August 6 that masks will be mandatory for students, staff and visitors while inside of our school buildings. The requirement for masks will be as follows:

 - Students must wear a mask in school buildings and on the bus.
 - Students will not be required to wear a mask while outside of the building, eating (snack or lunch) or when participating in a high intensity activity (PE class, etc.)
 - When an individual is engaged in an activity that cannot be performed while wearing a mask, such as playing an instrument that would be obstructed by the face covering, a mask will not be required.

As we did all of last year, we have systems in place to ensure we have a safe learning environment for our students and staff. At the upcoming Board of Education meeting on Monday, August 23 at 7 pm, I will be sharing in greater detail the mitigation strategies we will be using to start the school year as well as other important information. This meeting will be an in-person meeting in the high school cafeteria and also live streamed for anyone who would like to watch at home. Here is a link for the live stream: August 23, 2021 Board of Education Meeting. I will be sending out my presentation to all parents on Tuesday, August 24.

Towards the end of the day this Thursday, August 19 we will be releasing important information related to the 2021-2022 school year. PreK-6 students will receive information from their building Principal about their classroom teacher assignment and 7-12 students will be given access to their schedules in Aspen. There will also be several electronic forms in Aspen that parents will need to complete before the start of the new school year. This information is extremely important so please make sure it is completed. If you have any issues accessing your Aspen account or the forms, please email follett.aspen@shrsd.org and they can provide assistance. Parents will also be receiving an email this week with bus information for the upcoming school year. The email will be coming from our transportation system (info@ezrouting.com).

The South Hunterdon Regional School District works hard to provide an exceptional education to each and every student on a daily basis. Since regionalization in 2014, facilities have been studied and discussed by the Board of Education and our community. The November 2nd referendum is a result of many years of work to address our current facility challenges. The future of our students depends on providing learning environments and opportunities that are essential to prepare all students for the challenges of work, life, and citizenship in the 21st century and beyond. The decision on November 2nd will shape the future of our district for the next 30 years.

Over the next two months you will continue to receive information that details the importance of the referendum. I am sharing with you step one of the process that includes a video detailing the facility challenges we are currently facing at the Lambertville Public School and West Amwell School as well as the many opportunities our referendum plan can provide our students. SHRSD Referendum Video #1. I am also sharing an extensive FAQ for the referendum which will be helpful in answering questions you might have. As a reminder, we have a dedicated page of our website that focuses specifically on the referendum (www.shrsd.org/referendum). I will be hosting information sessions throughout September and October. Please consider attending an information session to ask questions about the referendum. If you have a neighbor that has questions, bring them along with you to an information session. Here is the schedule. Referendum Information Meeting Schedule
